It is proposed to offer you probationary appointment as a Medical Officer in Hong Kong with salary at the rate of £600 a year rising, by annual increments of £25, to £850, you will also receive while actually serving in the Colony, a cost of living allowance at the rate of $270 a year. Practice is not allowed.
The salary is a sterling dollar equivalent at the current rate of exchange, the value of the dollar with sterling varying with the rate of exchange. Salaries are free of income tax, subject to certain conditions which apply to officers actually serving in the Colony.
It is to be understood that your appointment is in the first instance for not more than three years from the date of your arrival in the Colony, and if it is established to the satisfaction of the Governor that you are not qualified for further service there, he will, subject to the confirmation of the Secretary of State, have full power to terminate your appointment at any time within three years without giving you any reason, and to send you back to your own country, and only if he is satisfied that you have conducted yourself in a manner deserving it. If not previously confirmed or expressly continued, your appointment will lapse.
